Healthy eating

Diet contributes to our health and well-being in many ways. But not everyone knows what healthy eating actually means and what positive and negative effects some foods can have on our bodies. A healthy diet also includes sufficient fluid intake, because drinking water keeps your body and mind fit!

Students from the Faculty of Sports and Health Sciences have prepared their projects on the topic of nutrition for you on this page. In addition to recipes, you will also find tips on how to drink enough water throughout the day and get tips from experts.

Meal prepping according to the modular system

Everyday life as a student can be very challenging and time-consuming, especially during the exam phase. Having the feeling that you can no longer buy anything or even cook something late in the evening is often the norm. However, nutrition plays an essential role in supplying the body with energy, it affects our psyche and provides us with vital nutrients. An efficient way to eat a healthy and balanced diet even during stressful phases is meal prepping according to the modular principle.

Advantages:

  • Time and cost saving
  • Balanced nutrition (thanks to the modular principle)
  • Sustainable
  • Applicable to many diets (vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, etc.)
  • Practical for everyday university life

The term “meal prepping” is derived from the English term “meal preperation” and in German means nothing other than meal preparation. According to the modular principle, a balanced dish should consist of 40% carbohydrates (rice, potatoes, quinoa, etc.), 30% protein (chicken, fish, tofu, etc.) and 30% vegetables (zucchini, peppers , eggplant etc.). The ratio of the basic ingredients can be adjusted depending on individual needs.

An important part of meal prepping is pre-cooking one or more portions for the coming days. This saves time and money and enables a balanced and varied diet. Below we will introduce you to a few practical and delicious dishes that are ideal for preparing and taking with you.

Healthy food: Your fuel for good performance and greater well-being

As students, we have many obligations that we have to fulfill. It is obvious that our needs, which we would like to fulfill, are sometimes lost. But strictly speaking, needs and obligations go hand in hand - especially when it comes to performance and the ability to concentrate. Nutrition is no longer a topic that you only deal with if you want to lose weight, but also to increase your well-being factor and your quality of life.

Have you ever thought that you are tired after lunch or dinner not because of the many study sessions, but because of the unconscious, fatty food intake?

We students have to set priorities. For example, we know that fruits and vegetables are healthy, but what quick recipes are there for them? Of course, there are an endless number of recipes available in the form of cookbooks and internet blogs, but who takes the time to find their way around the "world wide web"? So you quickly cook something familiar.

No matter what “purpose” food serves for you (feel-good food, “sporty” food), everyone gets their money’s worth on our TUM4Health website.

Have you drunk enough today?
